How does the lifting schedule work?

The competition follows the same order all day: squat, then bench press, then deadlift.

Lifters are divided into three groups called flights. Each flight takes three attempts at one lift before the event moves on to the next lift.

A flight typically lasts around 45 minutes, with a short break (about 10 minutes) between squat and bench, and between bench and deadlift.

Exact timing can vary depending on pace and flight size.

When will my lifter compete?

Lifting does not follow exact time slots.

Flights and lifter order are finalized and posted the evening before the event. The most accurate way to know when your lifter is up is to use the Find Your Lifter tools above and follow along during the day.

Because pacing can change, following along live is more reliable than estimated times.

How much weight is that?

Accepted Answer

Powerlifting uses color-coded plates:

• Red: 55 lbs
 • Blue: 44 lbs
 • Yellow: 35 lbs
 • Green: 25 lbs
 • White: 11lbs
 • Black: 5lbs
 • Chrome: Under 2.5lbs

Bar weights vary by lift:

• Squat bar: 55 lbs
 • Bench & deadlift bar: 45 lbs
 • Collars: 11 lbs total (used on all lifts)

You may also notice weights listed in kilograms (kg).

Powerlifting uses kilos so results can be compared consistently at an international level, including records and rankings.

Question 4

What do the white and red lights mean?

Accepted Answer

After each attempt, judges signal their decision using lights:

• White lights mean the lift was successful
 • Red lights mean the lift did not meet the required standards

Each attempt is judged by three officials, and a lifter needs at least two white lights for the attempt to count.

Why didn’t that lift count?

Accepted Answer

This event follows standard powerlifting competition rules.

Judges evaluate each lift based on clear movement standards.

Common reasons a lift may be turned down include:

• Squat depth not reached
 • Bench press commands not followed
 • Deadlift not fully locked out or resting on the thighs
 • Downward bar movement during a lift
 • Not following required commands (start, press, rack, or down)

Judges’ decisions are final and are made to ensure fairness and athlete safety.

Cheering and encouragement for your lifter and others is always welcome during attempts.

Question 6

How are placings decided?

Accepted Answer

Lifters compete within their own division and weight class.

Placings are based on each lifter’s total, which is the sum of their best squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Some awards, like Best Overall Lifter, are decided using a formula (DOTS) that compares performance across different bodyweights.

Can I take photos or videos at the event?

Accepted Answer

Personal photos and videos taken from the spectator area using phones are welcome.

To respect our athletes and official event media, professional photography equipment (including cameras with detachable or extended lenses) is not permitted without an approved media pass.

Media passes are available for those interested in photographing the event professionally. Availability is limited and must be approved and purchased in advance.
